Norfolk, Virginia, also known as “The Mermaid City” provides the central metropolitan area for Hampton Roads and serves as the cultural and business hub for the area.  It is also home to the world’s largest Naval base.  Most recently, Norfolk launched a light rail system, called The Tide, to facilitate travel within the city.  Downtown Norfolk is dotted with numerous high rise buildings providing home to a variety of corporations. In addition, Norfolk, Virginia is home to several universities including Old Dominion University and Norfolk State University.  Many excellent restaurants and shopping areas can be found throughout the Norfolk metropolitan area.

The neighborhoods within Norfolk range from waterfront estates, urban condominium complexes, established suburban enclaves with mature trees to historic and revitalized Ghent.   Norfolk, Virginia also is the location for the primary international airport in Hampton Roads.

Norfolk, Virginia hosts numerous activities and events for people of all ages including Harborfest,  the Virginia Wine Festival. the Bayou Boogaloo and Cajun Food Festival, Fourth of July Fireworks,  and the Norfolk Jazz Festival.  Norfolk, Virginia also offers many arts venues such as Chrysler Hall, the Scope Arena, The Virginia Opera, and the Chrysler Museum.  In addition, Norfolk,Virginia is home to the Hurrah Players, the area’s leading community theater organization that has produced many of the current Broadway performers.
